In Nakano, Nagano, set within the forest of Kita-Shinano Furusato-no-Mori Cultural Park, stand refined design trailer houses. Two independent villas, each a whole-house rental for up to 4 guests, come with a deck and an indoor shower. Undisturbed by anyone around, the green-wrapped hours are entirely yours.
About 10 minutes by car from the Shinshu-Nakano IC on the Joshinetsu Expressway. Right off the highway, yet perfectly placed to day-trip to the Snow Monkeys, Shiga Kogen, the Yudanaka-Shibu hot spring villages and Obuse, all from this single base. Stay several nights and explore a different corner of Kita-Shinshu each day.

What makes it special
Barbecue on the forest deck
Each villa has its own deck, and evenings mean an outdoor barbecue (a paid option by advance reservation). Look up, and a sky full of stars spreads over the forest, far from city lights. Mornings begin quietly with an unhurried walk among the trees.
Shinshu's nature, in every season
Summer brings park play and seasonal fruit picking; autumn, the colored leaves. Winter offers Shinshu's famed powder snow, with skiing and snowboarding at nearby slopes. After a full day out, return to a floor-heated room and a warm shower. Snow outside, cozy warmth within.
A base to explore all of Kita-Shinshu
Snow Monkeys, Shiga Kogen, the Yudanaka-Shibu hot springs, Obuse. Hot-spring hopping and fruit picking alike are within day-trip reach of this one base. A single night feels a little short here, so stay a while and roam Kita-Shinshu at your own pace.
